Lead Agencies are a vital part of increasing youth participation in their communities by engaging youth as volunteers for the first time on national days of service.

Our primary role as a Lead Agency is to convene a partner coalition that will collaborate to collectively activate youth – especially those in middle and high school and in under-served communities who aren’t usually asked to participate.

Lead Agencies convene partner coalitions of:

  • K-12 schools, colleges and universities;

  • Youth development, afterschool, and extracurricular programs; and

  • Community and faith-based organizations, government agencies, national service programs, volunteer centers, etc.

Opportunities for youth ages 5-25.

Self-Awareness Project

Your child is invited to participate in a research project being conducted in partnership with AWOFINC.

The purpose of this program is to measure the impact that participating in weekly mentoring has on student self-esteem through activities that focus on self-image and self-love.  It is assumed that when a child grows up to love himself, to be self-confident, to have high self-esteem, and to respect himself, there are literally no obstacles to his total fulfillment as a human being. ( Dyer, 2015).

How many people will participate in the program?

  • The study will consist of 7-10 participants between the ages of   9-14

  • What is the length of the program?

  • This is a 6-8 week program, 1 ½- 2 hours weekly.

  • What is involved in the program?

  • The program will focus on the enhancement of one’s self-awareness through participation in art, learning activities and discussion.

Benefits:

The benefits to your child participating in this program may be an improvement in self-esteem along with a more positive sense of self. However, there may be no direct benefit from participating in this study.

No payments will be provided for participating in this study however, participants of in-person sessions will receive light refreshments.

Right to Refuse or Withdraw:

Youth
Internship
Program

AWOFINC seeks to identify and work with organizations to launch a program that will provide young adults, ages 16-24, a paid internship in the private sector with a focus on high growth and/or high-demand industries.  Using lessons learned from past programs and with guidance from employers within the targeted industries, The Partnership has developed a program model with defined requirements and quality standards. The service providers will assign all youth to a career mentor and provide them with foundational skills training and wrap-around supports prior to placing them in internships with private sector businesses.  Throughout the internship, the service provider will engage young people in ongoing, weekly activities, including additional foundational skills training, job shadowing, employer panels, field trips, sector-specific training and/or peer support groups. The Partnership and/or the service provider will ask employers to host young adults for at least six weeks, exposing them to career opportunities and pathways within the sector.  The Partnership will expand the program in summer of 2023 and work in conjunction with the Funding Research Consultant to secure additional funding to support a year-round program.
