AWOFINC takes great pleasure in collaborating with health organizations on this event aimed at generating awareness of Preventable Curable Diseases through our Dept of Public Health’s rare disease education initiative. This event aligns seamlessly with our commitment to educating and empowering communities. Our Dept. of Public Health is deeply honored to partner with multiple health organizations in this noble endeavor, leveraging our experience in community engagement and educational outreach.

These community engagement events focus on issues of importance to the community like, Understanding Institutional Racision, Reparations, Police Accountability, political candidate forums, State Supreme Court candidate forum, Violence Prevention Rallys, and more!

As a result of the sharing that takes place in the Parent Café, parents recognize the value (and rich resource) of being in relationships with other parents. Additionally, the insights garnered through the Parent Café experience aid in building resilience against stressors that threaten to abolish the family unit.

Instead of complaining about the schools or blaming the parents, we decided to put together a spelling bee geared specifically towards minority students in 6th through 8th grades.  Bee’s 4 Jay’s Spelling Competition is an annual event for our Youth Leadership & Development team. Understanding the value of footwear in the community as a status symbol to our youth, all finalists will receive a pair of gym shoes for their participation.

Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is also called Emancipation Day or Juneteenth Independence Day. The name “Juneteenth” references the date of the holiday, combining the words “June” and “nineteenth.”

In 1926, Carter Woodson initiated the first “Negro History Week” on Feb. 7 to celebrate and raise awareness of Black history. And in 1976, said Texas A&M University Afro-American history professor Albert Broussard, this turned into a month-long celebration and was renamed Black History Month

The “Interfaith Vigil Against Violence” brings together clergy, faith based practioners, faith based administrators and their congregations to participate in a collaborative, strategic planning session to create and initiate faith based solutions to violence in the community.  Creating supportive community partnerships is a major component of our program. Each year on the third Monday of January we observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reflect on the work that still needs to be done for racial equality. This January 16, make the holiday more than just a day off and take time to reflect and take action on civil rights issues across the globe.

Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” These proclamations celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize the specific achievements women have made over the course of American history in a variety of fields.

Help us present our seminar series which includes financial literacy courses, homebuyers seminars, entrepeneurship opportunities  and many other beneficial presentatons. Your contribution will support leadership training, community organizing training and our leadership forum.  The workshop series offers financial planning, business start-up, college financial aid, scholarships & grants, political education, immigration & citizenship, English as a second language and more!

This event features a resource fair including area businesses, food vendors, musical performances, spoken word presentations, performing arts and other audio, visual offerings. The annual book bag and school supply giveaway is the highlight of the event for school-aged students. The health department offers immunizations and exams. Athletic events include student/teacher basketball & softball games and other carnival-style prize-winning contests.
